As part of the eleven-county Piedmont Triad region (population: 1.6 million), Guilford County is centered along the Piedmont industrial crescent stretching from Raleigh to Charlotte. The County’s traditional employment base of textiles, apparel and furniture has diversified greatly in the last fifty years. An excellent transportation infrastructure, including Interstate highway’s 40, 85, 73 and 74, Piedmont Triad International Airport, and readily available rail and truck service, has helped to solidify the County’s position as a major distribution and transportation center in the Southeast.

Guilford County affords the full range of amenities of a thriving urban area, including multiple regional shopping malls and more than three million square feet of retail space. Five acute care hospitals provide nearly 1,500 licensed beds, and three nationally prominent teaching hospitals are within an hour’s drive of the County. The public school system serves 73,000 students PK-12 in 126 schools; 8 colleges, universities and a community college serve a total of 29,000 students. Major cultural and recreational events include the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival, the Eastern Music Festival, the City Stage street festival, and the Greater Greensboro Chrysler Classic professional golf tournament.

Berkshire Corporation is a global technology leader nestled in the Berkshire Hills in an area called The Berkshire’s. The Berkshire’s were home to Herman Melville, Nathaniel Hawthorne and W.E.B. DuBois; Thoreau was a frequent visitor and Edith Wharton built her summer estate “The Mount” here. Today the Berkshire’s, which is considered by many to be America’s premier cultural resort, is home to a multitude of historic sites, cultural events, Mass MOCA, Tanglewood, Norman Rockwell Museum, Jacob’s Pillow, Canyon Ranch Health Spa, shopping, antiques, and award winning restaurants. The Berkshire’s offers 4 seasons of outdoor recreation. There are miles of trails from one end of the county to the other for hiking, camping and mountain biking and some of the best rock climbing in the east. In the winter, these same trails offer endless cross country skiing and snow shoeing possibilities or you can take advantage of the many local downhill ski areas. If you are interested in water activities, there are numerous lakes and rivers for swimming, tubing, fly-fishing, kayaking and canoeing. Berkshire County has almost 100 public, private, parochial and post secondary schools. Conveniently located just 2.5 hours from New York City and Boston, it is an exciting place to live and to work. Logan, Albany, Hartford, La Guardia, and JFK airports are all between a 45-minute to 3-hour drive away.
