Ounce of Prevention Worth a Pound of Cure

Maintaining an optimized growing environment free of mold, spores, fungi, pests, viruses, bacteria, and other growroom undesirables is critical to the health & safety of your end-users and overall profitability of your grow operation. Many growers struggle with mold and rot, often not realizing the link between proper sanitation and a healthy productive growing environment. Once the pestilence has taken hold, it can be very difficult to eliminate in your environment. Spores can spread quickly and settle on grow room surfaces such as walls, tables, floors, lights, fans, hardware, and other areas of the grow room. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure when it comes to maintaining consistent quality yields and the safety of your patients.

Clean it like a Cleanroom

Implementing effective standard operating procedures (SOPs) based on cGMP protocols which includes a documented cleaning regiment that addresses grow room sanitation, disinfection, and sterilization procedures is essential to minimizing the risk of grow room contamination. Proper cannabis grow room sanitation involves keeping your grow room clean and practicing good hygiene such as removing excess water from spills, dead leaves, soils, and other debris. In addition, careful attention must be paid to proper entry, wipe down of supplies & equipment, and gowning procedures to prevent pests such as such as spider mites, aphids, fungus gnats, and fungal diseases such as powdery white mildew and botrytis (bud rot) from entering your grow room.

Grow Room Sterilization & Disinfection

Grow room sterilization also known as grow room disinfection can be a very effective control method when it comes to preventing and protecting your marijuana grow room from powdery mildew, botrytis cinerea, and other microbial offenders. It goes beyond just simple sanitation and focuses on surface disinfection of the grow room typically using a bleach and/or a hydrogen peroxide disinfectant solution. The first step to disinfecting a grow room is removing any gross soils prior to applying disinfectants. Sodium hypochlorite (bleach) and 6% hydrogen peroxide solutions are recommended due to their strong sporicidal properties. Cleaning a grow room with hydrogen peroxide is an eco-friendly alternative compared to bleach, but bleach is often regarded as a stronger sporicidal disinfectant. However, bleach produces VOC’s so good ventilation and standard precautions apply when disinfecting a grow room with bleach. In addition, bleach can leave residues that can damage grow room surfaces if not properly removed from the surface after it has been applied. We recommended using one of our pre-saturated isopropyl alcohol (IPA) wipes after bleach disinfection of grow room surfaces to mitigate the risk of surface damage from the strong oxidizing agents in the bleach.

In addition, we offer a wide variety of cleanroom flat mopping systems for disinfecting walls, ceilings, and string mops for floors and other critical areas. Our cleanroom cleaning products are used in many of the worlds most critical clean room and lab environments where the smallest measure can make the biggest difference when it comes to controlling contamination. We also offer masks, adhesive mats, glove liners, and swabs for cleaning hard to reach recessed areas.
